01 — KNOWLEDGE MODULES
What I know
Five modules I have run in production. Each one is common on its own. Combined in one person, they are rare.
-
Power systems
Module activeElectrical power, schematics, metering, protection and grid connection. I understand what happens in the plant when something trips, and why.
-
PLC programming
Module activeIEC 61131-3 in TwinCAT and PLCnext, Modbus and fieldbuses. I read other people's programs, find the faults and build new functions in systems that are running.
-
Software
Module activePython, SQL and web. Data collection, databases, optimisation and tools that make operations visible.
-
Hydropower
Module activeREGULATIONS » Water rights permits, discharge conditions and the Swedish re-examination of permits (NAP).
OPERATIONS » How the plant is actually run, with control, alarms and troubleshooting.
-
Frequency reserves
Module activeREGULATIONS » Svenska kraftnät's terms for FCR and mFRR, and prequalification.
OPERATIONS » The daily bidding and delivery.

Where they meet
I am most useful in the connections between the areas. Point at a connection to follow the cable.
- Power
- PLC
- Code
- Reserves
- Hydro
-
POWER + PLC
I read the electrical schematic and the program at the same time. Troubleshooting does not stop at the line between electrician and programmer.
-
PLC + CODE
Data that stays inside the control system is of no use. I carry it on to databases and tools.
-
CODE + FREQUENCY RESERVES
Bidding and optimisation based on how the plant actually behaves.
-
HYDROPOWER + POWER
I see how the permit conditions and the electrical system together set the limits for operation.

I'm Johan Karlsson. I work across power engineering, automation and software, and I do my best work where they meet.
A single week can include a PLC program in a power plant, a bidding strategy for a battery and an alarm flow that has to work at three in the morning in January.
I prefer assignments where I get to understand the whole chain, from the sensor in the field to the decision made on the data. I like working closely with your own team.
